JOB TITLE:  Controller

SUMMARY

Following the Company’s successful re-branding campaign, Beanfields has now demonstrated 18 consecutive months of better year-over-year performance.  To boot, the Company is coming off of it’s largest selling Quarter in Company history.  Due to this rapid growth, the team now needs a full-time, in-house Controller.  The Controller will be responsible for the overall function of the Accounting department and will work closely with the accounting manager on all things related including, but not limited to month-end closes, journals and reconciliations, banking and treasury management, inventory and commission analysis, payroll, and receivables and payables management.  The culture at Beanfields is scrappy, and nimble with a roll-up your sleeves, start-up mentality.  Ideally, the candidate will have experience creating useful tools (in Excel) from scratch that serve to inform management on key financial trends, using leading indicators wherever possible.  The successful candidate will have mastered the ability to routinely produce consistent and accurate financial reports, including management dashboards, company KPIs, and GAAP financial statements. 

 

JOB DUTIES
  • Develop and improve processes and timing of monthly close and complete financial statements
  • Ensure cash flow optimization for the company, including managing accounting team members to ensure timely collection of AR, strategic payment of AP, and accurate forward forecasting of working capital and overall cash flow needs
  • Perform analytical review of monthly operating results and accounting workbooks
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations - KPIs
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics, manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  • Oversee tax, and potentially audit, related matters and coordinate the provision of information to external accountants for tax preparation in compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and filings
  • Promote and ensure consistency in the treatment of accounting transactions
  • Develop process improvements with the goal of gaining efficiencies in day to day operations

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS degree, preferably with Accounting focus/concentration
  • CPA designation
  • Exceptionally strong knowledge of GAAP accounting and financial reporting
  • Love of numbers and can navigate comprehensive data easily and quickly
  • Ability to multitask and manage many different moving pieces at once
  • Advanced-level experience with Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks required
  • Experience with EDI, ERP systems and various payroll platforms preferred
  • Experience in or knowledge of the natural food industry is a big plus
  • Overall willingness to chip in where needed as we continue to grow the company
  • Accuracy and detail-orientedness; highly organizedand efficient; seeks order in everything he/she does; structured in approach with the ability to ‘roll with the punches’
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivated and ambitious
  • Takes ownership of his/her work and thinks beyond the scope of a given assignment
  • Outgoing, can-do, positive personality; ability to talk to anyone
  • Passionate about food, and/or a plant-based lifestyle a plus
  • Experience in both corporate and entrepreneurial environments highly desirable
